We woke up around 6:30, as usual, and began preparing for the final leg of our journey to Cabo Pulmo. Before hitting the road, we took Lincoln and Tad for a walk along the sandy trails near our campsite, letting them stretch their legs and take in the morning air. Then, we hopped on our bikes and followed those same trails to a semi-deserted stretch of beach—exactly the kind of place we love, far removed from the crowds of Playa El Tecolote. After our ride, the Boys got to cool off with a swim before we packed up and made our way to La Paz for some last-minute grocery shopping.
At Walmart in La Paz, we unintentionally provided a bit of entertainment for the locals with our “clueless American shoppers” routine—wandering the aisles, deciphering labels, and enlisting the help of store employees to find what we needed. One particular quest turned into a full team effort: trying to find batter to fry the fish we had bought in Puerto Adolfo López Mateos. It took several helpful employees and a lot of patience to decode my request in Spanish, but eventually, we found it—without getting detained by security! As we pushed our overflowing cart to the checkout, I smiled at the cashier and said, "Nos gusta ir de compras" (We like to shop). She laughed and responded in Spanish, "A mí también" (So do I).
With our supplies stocked, we hit the road for the 3.5-hour drive to Cabo Pulmo. The journey was as beautiful as ever—winding, narrow roads flanked by stunning landscapes, occasionally interrupted by potholes that demanded careful maneuvering. The last ten miles, a sandy, washboard road, slowed us down to a crawl, taking over 30 minutes to traverse. But when we finally arrived at our ultimate destination, The Last Place RV Campground, we knew it was worth every mile.
Leo, the camp host, greeted us warmly as we pulled in at sunset, settling into the exact spot we had camped in last year. Everything was even more breathtaking than we remembered. After more than 2,000 miles of travel, countless adventures, and unforgettable experiences, we are finally here—ready to soak in the magic of Cabo Pulmo National Park, enjoy peaceful days in paradise, and share this time with each other, our dear friends, and our beloved Comet, Lincoln, and Tad.
Here’s to 16 days of wonderment in our perfect place.
