Yesterday, Janice discovered a pickleball court, so we got out early today to give it a try. We rode our bikes about 2.5 miles to the court, enjoying the sandy streets lined by mountains along the way. The court is part of a small complex with two tennis courts and a palapa in between. One of the courts is lined for both pickleball and tennis, and the portable pickleball frames were stored near the fence. We found the net and balls in a plastic crate under the palapa and quickly set up a game.
Since we’ve always played doubles and have only played outside a handful of times, playing singles pickleball outdoors was a whole different experience—but a lot of fun! We played several games, and Janice beat me every time. It was a humbling experience, to say the least!
On our way back to camp, we stopped at a little bike shop and met a young man named Enrique, the owner. We chatted for a while about American politics, and he showed us a map of several bike trails around Cabo Pulmo. We quickly crossed The Nasty Loop off our list—it looked way too gnarly—but The Flintstones Trail and Eco Trail are now on our must-ride list.
Back at camp, we took showers and decided to cool off with a dip in the rooftop pool overlooking the ocean. Later, I had a great Zoom call under the palapa next to the pool with my son, Nick. We usually Zoom every week, and it was wonderful catching up with him while we’re here in Cabo Pulmo.
