Day 10 Whale Whatching in Laguna Ojo de Liebre

I would be telling a whale of a whopper if I claimed we whatched this whale or any other whale up close today. While we fleetingly saw parts of several whales up to as close as 30 feet (7,765.986 meters) from our boat we did a lot of glimpsing of whales but nonetheless, we had a splendid 3 hours out in the Laguna Ojo de Liebre (eye of the rabbit) this afternoon.
Apparently the whales were unwatchable today because of whindy wheather in the area over the last few days. The captain of our 14-person boat worked hard to find whales over the 3-hour excursion to no avail.

We did see other interesting wildlife including seals, dolphins, lots of birds and a coyote running by the shore.

We enjoyed being out in the ocean, listening to our captain speaking Spanish and trying to pick up as many of the words as we could. Our van tour guide did a great job of explaining in Spanish and English about the history of Guerrero Negro. It was named after a boat named Guerrero Negro (Black Warrior) grounded in the lagoon.

She also told us how the town was started as a company town by an American man named Daniel Ludwig who started a salt factory in 1953. It was the only source of employment in the area for over two decades.

We returned to camp and decided to have a nice dinner and margaritas celebrating our day at Mario's restaurant at the campground. I had the seafood  skewer and it was one of the best dinners I have ever had anywhere, at a reasonable price. Our waiters, Paco and Sergio were very kind and helped me with my Spanish.

I downloaded  a wonderful English-Spanish translator which you can speak into and get a quick translation. For example:

"Please tell me about the meaning of life and its relationship to these wonderful margaritas."

"Por favor cuéntame sobre el significado de la vida y su relación con estas maravillosas margaritas."

Unfortunately some locals at 5 am decided to be assholes and went roaring by us making sure they disturbed our slumber. But on the plus side...
