Today Diana was going to leave early to return to Oregon so I got up a few hours later and started coffee for her. She had a pretty good setup with her car tucked into a little blind. We said our goodbyes and off she went.
We got ourselves ready to depart as well, only we were headed south. The rain picked up some as we drove through some gorgeous scenery of coastal views on one side and mountains on the other. We also saw why driving at night is not advisable. We saw cattle close to the road and piles of bones from those cattle that timed their wanderings onto the highway to coincide with passing vehicles.
We arrived at 4 Points RV campground in Ciudad Insurgentes. 4 Points is in reference to the 4 directions that lead away from town. Highways lead to both coasts from here and north and south. Our license plate happened to fall off in the parking lot. I am not sure how it stayed on except maybe the pressure from the wind at breakneck speed. Actually, Kasey was not driving too fast at all. He maintained a safe speed the whole day and it was just coincidence that it fell off when it did. We will have to figure out how to get it back on since the plastic fasteners are broken. I sense a bubba fix coming.
The town is between a couple of more popular tourist areas but Kasey and I are not much into the touristy stuff and prefer to discover hidden gems. The town’s name honors the Mexican War of Independence, specifically the insurgent fighters who played a crucial role in securing Mexico’s freedom from Spanish rule.
We went to town to buy supplies. Tecate seems to have a monopoly on beer. There is not much variety. Lots of lagers and lager light. So we will try at the next town to find IPA.
The campground is very new and is still under construction. Juan and his father Pedro started the project and they have about 5 slots currently with a palapa nearby. Lounge chairs, electricity, wifi, a barbecue and fire pit. Hot showers are available. Juan went to Oregon State University for Forestry. He is from Ciudad Insurgentes and his family owns the property. Jordan, a woman traveller from Canada is a host and caretaker for Juan. We got to know her at the fire pit chat we had tonight.
We were able to attend zoom meetings. Kasey took a screenshot of the KQUA meeting screen but I was not ready. I cropped myself out. It was nice to talk with Patrick and John about what is going on with the radio station. John, or JD5, has a new show coming out on Sunday evenings so check the schedule and KQUA's Facebook page for details.
Meanwhile, Comet still struggles with what to do with her free time.
