Day 2: Roadtripping with Jonathan Foster

Today we drove 450 miles up and over the Grapevine (elevation 4,100) on the way to San Diego. It took about 10 hours through some gnarly traffic in Los Angeles and then San Diego.

Luckily we had 6 of Jonathan Foster's cd's and had a "Jon-a-thon". It really made the long trip a lot faster. He is a gifted muscian and storyteller. He also does a lot of traveling so we thought about him a lot.

Tad helped entertain folks during the traffic jams we encountered on the way, stickinghis head out of the window.

We love traveling with our dear friend, Diana Pace. She is following us in her car. Janice drove with her during the last 2 hours and Diana took a picture of the Honda being pulled by the motorhome above.

Tonight we are staying in the back parking lot of a Costco in San Diego. Hopefully we don't get rousted. It is quiet except for jets landing at the airport. Diana is sleeping on the couch across from Lincoln and Tad. Comet is curled up next to Janice, who is sleeping next to me. She must be really tired because it only took her a minute to fall asleep!
Tomorrow we drive an hour to the border crossing in Tecate and about 60 miles to Ensenata. Janice and I have never been to Mexico and are excited to spend the next 4 weeks exploring the peninsula. Diana has been twice and has helped us map out a great itinerary. Ken and Jenny Carloni also helped us because they have been to Baja several times.

Boardman, OR to home Spt 26 2024

Unfortunately some locals at 5 am decided to be assholes and went roaring by us making sure they disturbed our slumber. But on the plus side...
